How to Achieve Your Big Goals Little by Little

Last week as we were winding up the Focus Business School Seminar on Entrepreneurship with a Biblical view at CoYETA, our last topic was on Goal Setting, a topic which was very inspiring.

We normally have very BIG dreams and ambitions but so often worry,  “How can I achieve such a GOAL!"

Immersed in worries we tend to get confused and fail in what we would have ACTUALLY achieved simply because we NEGLECT to set INTERMEDIATE GOALS and STEP by STEP actions leading us towards the LONG-TERM GOAL.

By achieving our short term goals in regard  to TIME and CAPABILITY eventually motivates us to keep running on the road to ACHIEVE our dreams just like one walking up the staircase, one step at a time.

We ought to decide on what we have to do NOW, TODAY and TOMORROW and be disciplined to do just that. When we do what we need to do, we will be winners in the race that God has set before us.  1 Cor 9:27-29

YES, we need to do what we should do, daily, just daily, to move closer to our goals, and years to come would take care of themselves.

This is what I mean.

Let’s assume your DREAM is to become financially independent through PIG FARMING.

Your LONG TERM GOAL should be to have 50 pigs within 2 years.

Your SHORT TERM GOAL should be to build a pigs' shade and buy 2 Piglets

Required ACTIONS include  1. Learn Basics of Pig Farming 2. Start saving 200,000 every month for 10 months etc.

If you look at the distance between where you are and where you want to be, it would be overwhelming and may seem impossible, then, you’ll be discouraged and give up.

Don’t!

Instead, ask yourself, what can I do today, tomorrow, next-week?

What are those little, but disciplined baby-steps I can take, daily, that could lead me to achieve my AMBITION?

Possible answers could be;

Reading a particular business/entrepreneurship book.

Making friends with business minded people (or owners) and learning from them.

Discussing business ideas with your spouse (yea, it helps)

Saving 30% of your present income  even if it’s small is a positive habit.

You got my point!

With CLEAR GOALS there will be PROGRESS and with progress RESULTS which will satisfy our hearts and give praise to the Lord.

Remember to write your GOALS  DOWN and ensure they are SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE and TIME-BOUND.
